Publishers (and Factories!)

Are you a board game publisher or represent a board game factory and have some overstock games?

Publishers

As a publisher you don't want to discount your games and de-value them by selling them too cheap, but you also don't want to sit on slow-moving product forever either.  Storage fees add up.  The capital you could get out of these slow-moving products is better used elsewhere.

That is where we come in!

We buy your inventory at deep discounts (but not nothing) and put your games in with games from literally 20+ other publishers to create these 75% off MSRP mystery boxes.  The psychology behind these mystery boxes works in the customer's favor, they see 6 games worth $200 or more and spot one or two they like and figure the rest were just a bonus.

What's even better, we often end up with brand new or nearly new releases in the mystery boxes as some publishers have choosen to use these boxes as a marketing tool.  They figure every game that gets into a customer's hands is played by half a dozen people or more, especially if it is a new release, and all of those players are potential customers.

We have even had occassion where a publisher was able to get their unit cost down at the factory by bumping up their manufacturing quantity and giving us those extra units.  They saved a little more with the factory for the increased volume and we still purchased the games for more than their manufacturing cost, so it was a win/win.

We typically start off with 100 or so of each overstock title and see how well the games are recieved.  For the typical game we offer 85% off MSRP if you deliver it to our warehouse in Utah, or 92% off and we pay the shipping to us.  We also offer a once-a-year opportunity to have your product delivered to the midwest near Indianapolis for GenCon as we sell quite a few Mystery Boxes at our booth there.  Here are a few more "rules"

  • The games need to be new/sealed and with a reasonable MSRP
  • The third-party market for the game can't be too erroded or our customers won't feel they got a good value for their purchase
  • Expansions may be accepted but we will only put them in boxes with the base game so we need no more expansions than base games.
  • Expansions are valued at half of the value of base games since gamers just don't typically value expansions as much.  So 92.5% off MSRP for expansions delivered to us, or 96% off if you deliver them to us together with base games.

Factories

Our owner Seth lived in China for 6+ years and has visited dozens of board game factories.  He has seen first hand how often at the back of the warehouse there are pallets and pallets of games that are stuck in limbo.  Sometimes a customer just doesn't pay for what they ordered or goes bankrupt.  What are you as a factory to do in this case?  If you have a problem customer let us help you.  We have helped several factories to put their client's feet to the fire and have them either agree to pay or agree to let them sell the product at the factory's cost to us.

If you have such a situation you can contact us and we'll take the product and pay the shipping to have it sent to us where we can include these games in mystery boxes.  But of course most of the time the client would prefer to take the product themselves and having us out there as a reasonable option for moving the games is enough to get the deal back on the right track for both factory and publisher.

Final Thoughts

We started this venture as a way to get rid of some of Mayday Games and Imperial Publishing's own overstock product, but we quickly realized that customers find even more value by having a more diverse mix of games in each box, so we have a vested interest in keeping as much diversity of product as possible in the boxes.   If you have some overstock games please reach out to us directly at Seth@maydaygames.com.
